A Big THANK YOU for Supporting DC Food Trucks!
We want to celebrate a major accomplishment with you:
DC Council has passed and Mayor Gray has signed into law new food truck regulations.
With your help, we struck down a proposal that overnight would have transformed DC’s food truck scene from one of the best to one of the worst in the country. The thousands of letters, emails, petitions, Tweets, posts and donations you sent helped us counter powerful opposition from special interests.
While we have made progress, the battle for innovative small businesses may not be over:
The new regulations include designated areas for food trucks and a lottery system; however, the rules don’t say how this will work. Without transparent and objective criteria, lottery-assigned locations could be created where there is no demand for food trucks. Or we could be boxed-in to lottery-assigned spaces, limiting our ability to roam and meet customer demand throughout the District.
Together we will need to help ensure that the implementation of the new rules is fair, objective and transparent so that you will continue to enjoy food trucks all throughout the District.
Today, we say thank you for helping us come this far!
